A Very Colorful, Whimsical Garden

The Slug Garden

Hey, everyone! Happy TGIF!:D

To accompany that briefer post from a few days ago, I wanted to share the vectored version of the doodle I uploaded in that earlier post of the garden. It’s a wonderful, hidden little garden where green plants of different kinds grow on the backs of giant, green slugs. To maintain the garden and keep the slugs content (after all, you would want to keep such giant slugs happy, right?XD), a family of red-haired triplets take care of them. They don’t seem to mind the slimy creatures, after all, not with those beautiful plants on them to admire.

It’s on a warm Spring day, as the triplets tend to their slimy friends, a new neighbor and future friend, stops by to deliver an invitation for a homecoming party. Upon her arrival to the gate, she is amazed to see the unique garden space that her neighbors have!

Over time, she gets to know the family better and even adopts some of the slugs herself to start her own slug garden, thus, starting a unique, quirky garden trend in the neighborhood. Sounds like a decent story, huh?

For all my drawings, I try to think of a story behind them even if the illustration itself is just a frame of the plot. It is important to capture what emotions and actions of that plot in each illustration, and it doesn’t have to be dictated by a thousand visual details. Yes, I know that my work doesn’t always follow that last part. I tend to make most of my pieces detailed, but that one a few posts down with the black and white fish, was fun to create because I realized that.

In all honesty, I would love to create storybooks and/or comics for all the stories that I create, but I dunno if there would be enough paper in the world to do that. lol Often, I think of a potential story, whether it’s child-like or not, short or long, or whatever, there’s many. And, it’s just great to capture those important moments with illustrations and explain the story to accompany the piece. It’s like a different way to do story-telling, I think.:)

Anyways, enough of my random rambling. I just wanted to update what I had done with that doodle. This piece will not be a part of the square series that I have been updating here often since it is not the right dimensions (This piece is about A4 or letter size.) and doesn’t follow the more monochromatic style. But, don’t worry, I’ll update more of those down the road as I work on them. I am really enjoying this project so far, have thought of so many ideas, and want to plan/work on this as long as possible. (Well, not comic story long, but yeah…) I just want to make sure these look right.:)

Well, that’s it for now. I will update soon. Talk to you all later. Happy Friday, everyone.:)
